“La Montaña” to be screened at the Providence Latin American Film Festival (PLAFF) thanks to GFDD

Friday September 26th, 2014

Thanks to the collaboration of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), the Dominican movie La Montaña (“The Mountain”) will be screened at the Providence Latin American Film Festival (PLAFF), to be held October 2-5, 2014 in Providence, Rhode Island.

“La Montaña” beautifully documents the adventure of the first Dominican expedition to reach the top of Mount Everest in Nepal. With stunning images, powerful music, and inspiring achievements, the documentary presents the contrast between the highest mountain in the world and the low lands of the Caribbean, as the three climbers surpass the difficult path to reach the top. At the same time, three Dominican children, sons of fishermen, start their own challenge in climbing the highest mountain of their island. Two parallel stories that remind us that from the sea to the sky, everyone has a dream and their own mountain to climb.

PLAFF is an inclusive Pan-American film festival operating since 1992. Over the years, PLAFF has screened more than 650 feature films, shorts, documentaries and animations, and aims to bring the creative work of up-and-coming filmmakers to the New England area. It has been recognized nationally and internationally for its rich history and the quality of its films and programs.
